Bird's Nest

Posted by Picasa
William was feeling a little under the weather today. It seems to be a cold. He asked me to build him a bird's nest while he watched a movie. He was in this position for almost 45 minutes. He must be feeling crummy because it is usually hard to get him to sit still for 2 minutes.

Flashlight Fun

Posted by Picasa
William got to stay up late tonight because he took a 3 and a half hour nap. When we got home from the grocery store, he wanted to explore the basement with flashlights. You can't really tell from the picture, but the basement was totally dark and William and Daddy were playing cars by flashlight.

No More Sippy Cups

Posted by Picasa
William has been hiding something from us. We took him to preschool this week and they do not use sippy cups there. He drank like a champ from the first day...I'm not sure when he has been practicing this skill, or why it took me so long to realize it was time for him to graduate to a real cup.

The Proof

Someday, I will need all the help I can get to make sure William eats his vegetables. I recorded this video, so that one day I could jog his memory about what his favorite foods were when he was young. I feel pretty lucky that my child will choose veggies over the giant cookie on his plate from the neighbor....I'm sure Daddy wasn't too upset about having an extra cookie.

Sweetie Pie

As much frustration as William can cause me, he always makes up for it at bedtime. Over the past several nights, he has said the following things to Aaron and me.
W: "Mommy, you are my princess."
K: "I am, thank you."
W: "I'm your prince."

A: Singing a song to William
W: "Daddy, go get your guitar."
A: "It is all the way downstairs. I will just sing."
W: He laid down and fell asleep quickly

W: "Mommy, you are my best buddy."

First Day of Preschool

He was so excited to show off his backpack

Today was William's first day of preschool at the SIUE Early Childhood Center. This preschool is one of the perks of Aaron being a student. He will be attending preschool on Tuesday and Thursday. I am already totally impressed with the school. His teacher has been there for 18 years and has a master's degree in early childhood, and the assistant has been there for 10 years and has a bachelor's degree in early childhood. The other teachers in the room are students studying early childhood education. They really seem to know what they are doing, and we have heard excellent things about the program.
He seems to be fitting right in. There were no tears at drop off, but he was a bit shy to start off. When Aaron called around noon to check in, the teacher said he was doing great and singing and dancing outside. He napped well for them and stayed accident free all day (which is a big deal in a new place where he isn't comfortable asking to use the potty.) The only issue is his lack of interest in food, but I assured his teachers that it was not a reflection on them...he rarely wants to eat for us.
When we first got to the classroom today there was a little boy laying in the "cuddle corner" next to all of the cubbies. The teacher said to William, "it's okay, you can walk around Brady." William laid down next to Brady and said, "What's wrong?" The little boy replied, "momma, momma, momma." To which William said, "It's okay, your mommy will pick you up after work. It will be real soon." (I wonder how many times I have said this to him.)

Chopsticks

William is not a big eater. In fact, he would probably not stop to eat if we didn't make him. Tonight, we may have discovered a solution to that problem. He LOVES chopsticks.

The Shirtless Boy and The Dragonfly

William inspecting an ailing dragonfly

Contemplating the situation

Taking a break to think of a plan

Maybe a juice box will do the trick

William was fascinated with a dragonfly that was on its last leg. He watched it for a long time, and kept trying to get it to fly. We ended up putting it to bed in the grass.
On a different note, he was not into wearing a shirt at all today.

Driving must be exhausting, he fell asleep as soon as he sat on my lap

He was out cold...life jacket, waves, wind, and all

I don't think William would have gotten out of the water

Aunt Maggie!!!!!

I'm not sure who was more exicted to see Aunt Maggie, but my vote would be for William. He wanted to wake her up every morning so that "I can play with her."

Lake Oconee

After a LONG drive, we made it to my Aunt Char and Uncle Rich's house on Lake Oconee, GA. Within 15 minutes of being there, we were on the boat, and William loved it. It was right at sunset and was absolutely beautiful.
