Suzuki Week 4

William and I are learning a lot at Suzuki. For those of you not familiar with the program, the parents have to take basic instruction at the same time. The Suzuki method is based on the idea that children learn best through nurturing, so the parent is the only teacher at home. William is doing really well, so far he has learned the following things:
1. All the parts of the violin and bow
2. How to hold the violin and he is working on his bow hold (it is much harder than I realized!)
3. Popcorn fingers
4. Six different rhythms both by sight and sound
5. The foot positions and bowingj

I am certain there is more, but at the moment I can't remember. He will be ready for his real violin very soon!

Ballerina with a Cold

Aunt Maggie gave Emmie this little ballerina outfit. It is still a little big, and I am not very skilled at putting headbands on...but I'm getting better. Poor Emmie is a little under the weather with her first real cold.

I was out of town for work this week from Monday-wednesday. On Monday night, William woke up at 10pm while Emmie was being really fussy, so Aaron had my Dad come help him. William and Grandpa snuggled on the couch while Daddy comforted Emmie. William was still not asleep once Aaron was done, so Aaron took him back to his bed and he went to sleep quickly. The next morning William walked out of his room and said this to Aaron, "Daddy, I slept all by myself, and I woke up at the right time!" He was SO proud of himself.

4 Months Old!

Emmie's 4 month stats:
12 lbs. 11 oz. which is the 35th percentile
23.5 inches which is the 25th percentile
16.5 cm head circumference which is the 75th percentile

Emmie is very social and is always smiling and babbling. She is rolling from her tummy to her back often. She is definitely starting to show signs of stranger anxiety.

Emmie loves her bath and her Daddy! In fact, I was out of town for work this week and whenever she was upset being held by one of her grandmas, if Aaron picked her up she would stop crying immediately.

Start of Suzuki

William started the Suzuki program at SIUE this week. He had his first private lesson on thursday and today he had his first group lesson. He is starting off with a cardboard violin, and once he learns how to treat it he will get his real violin. I am sure there will be many more posts on his progress to follow.

Emmie rolled over 4 times today from her tummy to her back. It was kind of funny because whenever I said "yay" she would cry.

How Do You Marry a Dragon?

Tonight at bedtime William got very serious, and he proceeded with the following conversation.
W: Mommy, I don't want the dragon to take you to his family and marry you.
Me: I can't marry a dragon. I'm already married to Daddy.
W: No, Mommy. The dragon has married powers, and he can marry all the girls.
Me: Who are you going to marry?
W: Um, I think Mia and Davi.
Me: You can only marry one person.
W: Maybe just Mia. Well, she is kind of bossy, but I'm kind of bossy. So if she is a little bossy, and I am a little bossy it will be fine.

Sibling Lunch

I can only imagine the conversations that will occur between the two of them at the table in a few years. Emmie is fascinated by her brother!

Doctor Set

William got his doctor set out the other day, and Emmie was a willing participant in the play time.

Barbie?

I was able to put a bow in Emmie's hair, even though it didn't stay for long. After I put it in, William said, "mommy, my baby sister looks just like a Barbie."
